How to Create Gathering Places In and Around Your Pool

One of the many benefits of working with a custom pool builder is the ability to incorporate unique design features. Whether you plan to have lavish pool parties or smaller gatherings with family and friends, adding a few seating areas is a must. This will help keep the conversations flowing and ensure everyone has a comfortable place to kick back and relax.

If you’re looking for some inspiration, you’re in the right place. Here’s a look at some of this season’s hottest pool seating trends.

1. Conversation Pit

A conversation pit is a sunken area that’s designed to give guests a secluded spot to gather and socialize. These flexible spaces can be incorporated into your pool patio, placed nearby the pool, or built right into the pool with a separate underwater seating area.

In-pool conversation pits are often placed off to one side so they do not interfere with other pool activities. However, it’s also possible to make a bold statement by building one right in the center of your pool.

2. Tanning Ledge Lounge

Many pools have a wide, shallow area near the entrance, known as a tanning ledge or a sun shelf. These areas can be the perfect spot for in-water lounge chairs. You can also anchor umbrellas into the pool floor and add small side tables or even a built-in cooler to create the ultimate social gathering area.

3. Swim-Up Bar

Having to get out of the pool to enjoy a snack or a drink can put a damper on the party vibe, but when you have a swim-up bar, guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. It’s easy to add a bar and underwater seats to your pool design. You may choose to match your bar to your pool, so it integrates seamlessly, or draw attention to it by choosing a complementary style and/or color.

Adding sun shades or a pergola over the bar area can give guests a much-needed respite from the sun. You may also consider adding a wet bar on the patio and incorporating features like a television, sound system, and/or tiki torches.

4. Fire Pit

There’s something magical about combining fire and water, making fire pits with seating is a very popular feature despite Florida’s high temps. Adding a fire pit to your pool area will give it an upscale look and help keep the party going long after the sun goes down.

If you really want to make a bold impression, try adding a fire pit alongside the pool and installing swim-up seating around it. Or, install a fire pit along the side of your spa or hot tub, so guests can enjoy the flames while relaxing in the heated water.
